About Indore

History

Indore is the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, Rao Nandlal Chaudhary is the founder of the city and named Indore as "Indrapur".

during the Maratha regime, it was renamed as " Indur" and after the British Era, it is renamed as "Indore".

Holkar dynasty played a major role in Indore's history.

the city was a reward was Malhar Rao Holkar, founder of the dynasty of Peshwas.

Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar played a major role in the development of the city and she has also changed the earlier reforms.

during that times Indore remained an important commercial capital for Holkar's although they have Maheshwari as their capital still, Indore stayed best for commercial purposes during that time.

the testimony of the Holkar's era is Rajwada, Lal Baugh palace, and sukh niwas.

After Independence in 1948 Holkar state along with the Union of India and become the capital of Madhya Bharat.

during 1956 the capital is shifted to Bhopal after the state of Madhya Pradesh was bring into being.

So basically it is a Kind of 'Mini Mumbai".
